ABOUT FRESNO STATE

Fresno State serves a diverse student body of over 25,000 students, with approximately 21,000 undergraduates and 4,000 graduate students. The demographics reflect the rich cultural diversity of the Central Valley, with a significant portion of the student population coming from underrepresented backgrounds. About 63% of Fresno State students identify as Hispanic, making it a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). Additionally, many students are first-generation college students, and around 67% of undergraduates are Pell Grant-eligible, indicating a high level of financial need.

The Central Valley, where Fresno State is located, has a significant demand for cybersecurity professionals. The region’s economic reliance on agriculture and growing technological infrastructure creates a critical need for skilled cybersecurity workers to protect sensitive data and systems. However, the socioeconomic challenges in the area mean that many residents face barriers to accessing high-quality education and training opportunities.

Fresno State’s cybersecurity initiatives include the Cybersecurity Regional Alliances and Multistakeholder Partnerships Pilot Program, which aim to address this gap by providing comprehensive training and resources to prepare students for high-demand, well-paying jobs in the field. Fresno State offers Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Cybersecurity Certificate Programs through a National Telecommunications and Information Agency Connecting Minority Community Grant. Also, the California Cybersecurity Career Education Pipeline and Pathway Project (C3EP3). By equipping students with vital skills, Fresno State not only enhances individual career prospects, but also contributes to Central Valley economic development and security.
